The Metropolitan Housing Coalition has documented the societal cost of redlining in Louisville: 22,000 Black families who should be homeowners are not. We can address this and change the physical conditions in disinvested neighborhoods to reinvest in and recycle thousands of abandoned properties and vacant lots.
Mobilize a redevelopment movement with residents in West Louisville by targeting 100 homeownership sites to be redeveloped, enlist legal and municipal assistance to clear titles and assemble parcels, and assign $13 million for innovative, energy-efficient home development meeting the residential needs of 21st-century families.
